and we’ll have breakfast at 6:30. Thanks.

January 7, 2010

So for Christmas, my father gave me a fantastic gift–exactly what I asked for–a fuzzy logic rice cooker.

E. & I’ve made rice, rice pudding, wheat berries, oatmeal, and steel cut oats in it.  And Wednesday night, we got around to programming it’s timer.

a rice cooker breakfast!

Breakfast is served!

We measured in:

  • 1 Cup of steel cut oats
  • 2 ¾ Cups of water
  • salt to taste (~½ tsp table salt)
  • ¼ Cup dried sweet cherries (dehydrated at home!)

Set the timer so that it would finish cooking using the porridge cycle  at 6:30 am, and had breakfast ready when E. was out of the shower.  All I had to do was make the tea.

And finally, I got to taste properly cooked steel cut oats.  They were nutty and chewy, but much softer than we’d been cooking them previously.  The overnight soak really helps.

I had mine with a bit of butter and a bit more salt; E. added brown sugar and milk.  Perfect with a cup of vanilla tea.
